Despite being in the thicket of the most important matters in human history, The Horned Frog still had to deal with something that every person had to tackle when working: paper work. His office was a good size, but nothing too special. As of now, it had stacks of documents around his desk. Adorned with a few pennants of his favorite sports teams and a couple pictures of him and his fellow Great Alliance members. It has wooded walls and floors, a few displays of variants of his "Frog Skin" suits and helmets in glass lining the walls, and a solid oak desk. There, he had the typical flat screen monitor settled on the desk while the original computer from the Frog's apartment remained hidden. Two padded, wooden chairs sat in front of the desk, in the event where the Horned Frog would have guests visit his office when he was indeed in the office.
With his helmet off and placed next to his chair, the facial features of David Alastair Rosenzweig could easily be seen by any visitor. His left hand propping his head up while his right hand held his pen, writing away on a report on the strategies that the Alliance and their Tartalian allies have taken towards defending the planet from the Imperium. Strategies that he wasn't sure if they would work or not, because the Imperium was an unknown enemy, even to the Tartalians. According to the Tartalian religious leaders, who doubled as historians of the fleet, were the only sources of how the Imperium appeared and what the 'dark brothers' had done to the Tartalian home world. These sources didn't give much details, so it was hard to figure out what the invaders had in mind when it came to conquering a planet.
It was frustrating. His mind wandered as he set the pen down on the desktop and leaned back into his chair. Sighing to himself, he closed his eyes and let his memories take over. His day off at the beach was a fiasco, as Rangiku and Minako embarrassed him quite a bit. Boob buckets, accidental grabbing, and being laughed at relentlessly. That's what he had to deal with. Along with constant facepalming and being persuaded to drink himself silly, David was able to escape Rangiku's death grip by getting her more rounds. With that, he was able to slip away. Not exactly sober, but alive nonetheless.
Then, he heard a knock on the door. His eyes jolted open and sprang forward to his desk. Looking up, he spoke out: "Come in, the door's open." His tone of voice was inviting, as he resumed scratching away at that report. His eyes displayed a sense of tiredness within the Horned Frog, as the overwhelming forces of managing this academy and preparing for this unknown opponent from the stars. A tough job to pull off to any one man. Especially one who had once been a few years removed from being a simple street vigilante on a mission to eliminate a group of shadows.
Oh, what a long road in such short time. Surely, for the Horned Frog...it's a tour de force.

Lucinda wasn't entirely sure why she was here. At the school, that is- the dark urges in her head had been persistent lately and growing harder to ignore. 'Lately' was in the past few years, and it didn't necessarily make it a pressing matter, but... Luce worried that one day she would finally go off the deep end and make a huge mistake. She had the power to do a lot of damage if she really wanted, but she didn't- she'd much rather die herself.
Though that wasn't exactly the most appealing result either.
The blonde knocked lightly on the door before nudging it open at the invitation and crossing her arms, looking conflicted. Her haunting gaze settled on the report in front of The Horned Frog, the only name she'd really heard the man called. Really, the only thing she knew about him was that he was one of the vigilantes who'd met the Tartalians upon their arrival and that he was one of the heads of the facility. She took a deep breath before biting her lower lip and starting.
"Um... I'm sorry to bother you, sir. My name's Lucinda Valentine, or Luce. I just got here a couple of days ago and I was wondering if you guys could really, er, help me." She sounded uncertain, and as if she was trying to choose her words very carefully. Luce blinked, then hastily added, "Not that this place isn't great or anything, it is, but..." How did one tactfully explain that they had the potential to turn into a homicidal maniac at the drop of a hat?

Looking up from his desk, the Horned Frog's eyes met with the unique eyes of his visitor. Motioning her to have a seat in front of him with his right hand, he responded accordingly. "Sure, sure. Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable," David said, his voice giving off a calm, soothing reassurance to him. He was grateful that the students were taking advantage of his open door policy when it came to discussing matters. Sure he was the Horned Frog, but he was still David Rosenzweig. He didn't believe in bureaucracy, or any sort of hierarchy. The Great Alliance wasn't an exclusive club, like the Justice League. New Masada threw open its gates to those willing to protect this island planet from an onslaught from beyond the stars.
Moving quickly to his computer, he typed in "Lucinda Valentine" into the database. Once entered, all of her information came up in a profile like webpage. He then nodded to himself with the revelation of what she had disclosed to the Great Alliance, before leaning back into his chair and taking a good look at the girl. She was relatively young, and seemed to be one of the many 'gifted' students that he had recruited heavily to join the ranks of the University of New Masada. Students that the Horned Frog had a desperate need for, as these students would stand alongside the Alliance to protect Earth.
"Luce, please call me David. You're not a bother at all, so you shouldn't have any worries about that. So what can I help you with?" The Horned Frog took a rather informal approach to the blonde haired girl. His words did in fact ring true, as the welfare of the students rests heavily on the shoulders of the Alliance. This was no exception, as one needed to keep student morale on a high note. Then, his mind snapped to a provoking thought. He was referring his students like an army. The University of New Masada was not to simply raise a fighting force to defend our planet against the Imperium.
Instead, he wanted to create an all-around university. One for research and science, as well as to serve and protect. An atmosphere of openness and self-determination. For the good of both humanity and that of the gifted. So, he patiently suspended all of the matters he had before. This gave him a more concentrated look, focusing his ears on what the girl had to say. The more information that the Frog was given, the more he can do to help her to his best ability.

Luce hesitated before walking into the room fully and sitting down on one of the chairs, crossing her slim legs and resting her hands in her lap. It took her a brief moment to gather her thoughts, her mismatched eyes lowered. She wanted what she said to sound sane, and that might be a chore in itself since Luce had trouble understanding her own thoughts sometimes.
"Well... I don't remember how much I mentioned in my application, but my father is an angel and my mother is a demon. I... my thoughts can get very muddled," She shifted in her seat, a frown tugging at her lips while she struggled to explain herself. "I guess you could say I've got a devil on one shoulder, and an angel on the other, but the devil decides to dress up as his counterpart a lot, and I can't tell who's who." That was a good way of putting it, wasn't it? Luce thought it made sense, anyways.
"Sir... I mean David, I don't question the facilities, I just... wonder if you guys can really help me." She finally met his gaze, looking a little desperate. "I don't want to hurt anybody." Luce wasn't sure how much she could do to protect the planet or any of that, and she did feel kind of selfish for coming here. After all, wasn't this place meant to train people to save the earth and all that jazz? At the same time, the blonde couldn't help but think that by coming here, and being around people who hopefully had the power to restrain her- or even kill her if necessary- she was saving the lives she'd be very unintentionally tempted to take.

He analyzed her words as supplemental information for his senses. This girl, Luce Valentine, wasn't very confident that she could control and conduct herself due to her conflicting natures. Along with being uneasy of how the university and the Alliance can be of help to her, it was evident that she was fighting an uphill struggle against herself. The father was an angel, and her mother was a demon. Quite possibly either due to passion or from the 'alliance of convenience' that he had seen once before. A dark skinned goddess who also chose to ally herself with the forces of her father, the divine one rather than join with her mother, the ruler of demon-kind. He nodded, as his violet eyes closed briefly and opened up to her once more.
The Horned Frog was much like the old philosophers of antiquity. He was being sought for answers and knowledge to aid individuals to his best abilities. Lowering his hands from his face and leaning forward in his chair, his violet eyes gazed upon the young girl. "I understand completely, Luce. You came to New Masada for a good reason and that was what I'm presuming to be guidance and to protect the ones you care for," David promptly responded. He had to quickly nip this one in the bud, and have Luce believe that she can believe in herself with Alliance help. Help her conquer those demons and grow that insecurity into undying devotion to her peers and comrades.
His face softened into a smile, as he continued on. "By the looks of you, you're a good person. You're courageous for dropping by and openly telling me of your burdens, so for that alone... I hold you in high regard. That's the first step in the right direction, Luce, and we're here to walk alongside you and show you the way," The Foreigner added. The words 'I don't want to hurt anybody' resonated in his frame of mind. The girl had bright intentions, as she cared for the well being of others rather than herself. Not only did he see great potential in her, but also a reflection of himself. The triumph over tragedy by sheer will and perseverance. These foundations, along with the right guidance, would create this young girl into a heroic figure.
He felt the need to resume. In his mind, the Frog should give her an idea of what the Alliance can do for her along with helping right her ship. "Since you came here a few days ago, I'll tell you what we do here. Not only do we, the Great Alliance help you with what you go through, but this place is to train you. It's not only here to prepare you and ourselves for the threat of a hostile alien invasion, but to train you to become a outstanding member of society. We'll teach you how to fight should the situation arise, and find you a position with the Alliance that you would feel comfortable with, and have you interact and establish relationships with not only the other Alliance members and I...but to create kinships with your peers. I believe that your courage and will to be guided will lead you to do great things," he concluded for the moment. His tone of voice was reassuring and set towards giving the blonde some confidence.
Indeed, the girl was courageous. Speaking to the first reported human to come into formal contact with extra-terrestrials, and the person who was the first and last line of defense of the races that called Earth home. Most students were freaked out when the Horned Frog was within earshot of their conversations, well besides Lind. They were terrified of her more than anything. That was besides the point. While Lind was fearsome, the Valkyrie did care for the students as well, in her own little ways. She concealed it, but David was more open about his compassion and right here...it was showing more than ever.

Back on earth again it was pretty normal for Lind to be going between heaven and earth she might have been a member of the Great Alliance but she couldn’t ignore her duties as a Valkyrie it wasn’t like her to do such a thing and the Almighty would be unpleased to the point that he might pull her from the Alliance. The only other goddess she knew of that he would probably send wouldn’t be able to do the job very well if at all most of them would slack off this wasn’t a job that could afford such a thing. But that was the lest of her problems right now she had something more bothersome that needed to be addressed with David she didn’t want all the staff knowing about this until there was more information no point in scaring everyone if turned out to be nothing.
The small goddess made her way down the hall to David’s office and the door was opened nothing surprising about that it was something he did to let people know they could stop by and talk to him about things. As she got closer she realized he wasn’t alone this caused her to frown slightly she had wanted to talk to him alone but that wasn’t going to happen and she really didn’t want to wait there was no telling when she would be called back to heaven if this small problem became something bigger.
Walking inside she stopped behind Luce waiting for someone to notice her hopefully it wouldn’t be a long wait. She was aware of what the young woman was in front of her she could feel it. Sort of like how they could tell when a demon was around it was just something they all could do. Sort of like Urd only shorter and probably younger too. Hopefully she didn’t act anything like the white haired goddess the world could only barely handle one of her.

The teenager still looked a little troubled- after all, she wasn't sure she wanted to learn how to fight. Well, she could already- no particular fighting style, but she could defend herself should the situation arise. Luce was just worried that honing her combat abilities would only make her even more dangerous to those around her. In fact, she was surprised at how clear-headed she was at that moment. "I-I don't really want to be a hero, to be honest. I just want to be... I don't know. Me." Normal. Accepted. Free. The girl longed for that the most- some semblance of normalcy in her life. It wouldn't be the same as a human's, of course. She wasn't human, and never would be, even if she chose to live among them.
Lind had a presence that filled the room, and some niggling instinct in the back of Luce's head had her shrinking into the chair a little at the Valkyrie's entrance. Her aura was some sort of heavenly- Luce wasn't sure if she was an angel or what, but she knew it was far from demonic. The power in it also made her a little less secure. She looked over her shoulder, pushing her bangs out of her face. She kept her monochrome eyes unreadable and her lips straight, though her posture was enough evidence of her submission.
"S-sorry. Should I leave?" The excuse foremost in Luce's head was that the person she could only assume was Lind had more important things to talk about than personal insecurities, but the real reason the blonde offered was because she felt uncomfortable. She'd never actually met an angel or demon aside from her mother. She wasn't sure what Lind was, but either way she was the closest to the prior as Luce had ever gotten.

Anticipating her words, David slowly closed his eyes and nodded very slowly. Most of the kids that he had brought in didn't want to be heroes. But they had to fight and sacrifice. Although the Horned Frog knew where most of them came from, he had no choice but to assume these heroic responsibilities. Especially when the Tartalians warned the Alliance of the threat that all of them faced. The Imperium would be relentless, nothing more than seeking the annihilation of both races. The Foreigner threaded his hands together and set his elbows upon the table. Staring straight into the young girl, preparing himself for what he could tell her next.
"I completely understand, and if you came here to find yourself...then this place is the place to do so. We are surrounded by other extremely gifted people who are here to help you. From your peers to me, we're here for you," The Horned Frog replied, maintaining his tone of reassurance and wisdom. These students were selected not from the most elite of society, but from the rough. Where it was possible to find more diamonds than stones. Much like the innovative Marius of ancient Rome, he recruited the downtrodden and poor. Those who could be extremely loyal to the Alliance and fight alongside the organization.
Then, he noticed that Lind had entered his office. She had that presence to her that intimidated the raw recruits and younger students. For those with the ability to sense spiritual pressures, Lind was a powerful force. His eyes wandered to her for a moment and then back to the blonde haired Luce. When asked that if she needed to leave, David inhaled deeply to himself. He needed to the girl to stay so he could get a feel for her and what to expect if things didn't exactly go according to the best scenarios.
Looking over to Luce, he nodded. "It would be for the best as of right now. But do drop by again sometime soon." Then, the Horned Frog turned his attention towards the cyan-haired goddess. His main aide and one of the more prominent Great Alliance members, the Valkyrie Lind. Her face didn't show it all too often, but Lind was concerned with something. David was aware that she had went to Yggdrasil briefly to gather information and intelligence for the Alliance. And this was what he got in return.
Once Luce had left, the expression on his face hardened. This was something important for everyone involved. If Lind was relaying important information, then it was very urgent. That frown of hers was very evident to the situation. Sighing to himself, he looked up onto the Tiny Terror. His voice changed into a more serious tone. "I suppose something is happening. What's the situation?" He questioned, awaiting her response. Whether it was grave or anything, if it came from Lind...it was something to address swiftly and efficiently.

Lind stood and waited once Luce had left she moved closer to Davie the door was still open and she wanted to keep it between the two of them for the time being. “People have been disappearing rapidly and not just some crazy person going around kidnapping people either. There isn’t enough information right now but it seems off…I’m not sure it doesn’t feel like Hild or any other demon’s doing.” She couldn’t see why Hild or any other demon would want a bunch of human’s for any reason a few maybe but not such a large group and so quickly either. “It’s not just normal people either many of the wish granting goddess charges have disappeared.”
“There’s something else…that bothers me I feel like its going to get far more worst before it gets better if it does at all.” she looked Davie in the eye it sounds bad but she couldn‘t ignore the feeling she was getting from this “I think we should keep a better eye on everyone staff included until this is over with. In the meantime I’ll be going back and forth from here to Yggdrasil more often to stay updated and if I need to be deployed to deal with this with the others whatever it may be. So I may have to cut my classes short until it’s over with.” Part of her hoped it’d be nothing major but in the pit of her stomach she knew better the believe that. Things just weren’t adding up it didn’t make any sense.

If Lind was getting worried of such a situation, it was more than enough to get the Horned Frog very concerned. She mentioned that it was not Hild nor any other demons from Nifelheim who had caused such a stir, but it was something completely different. He eyed her with a calm, steady gaze although his eyebrows tightened in deep worry. She was definitely right, they had to keep an eye on not only the students of New Masada, but the members of the Great Alliance itself. This should warrant a high alert with everyone, but that would surely send the whole island into something between a whipped frenzy or a tidal wave of panic.
Standing up out of his seat, the Horned Frog walked around the desk to stand in front of the Valkyrie. Her expression was serious, more serious than usual. His violet eyes looked down upon her cyan blues, as he rested his right hand upon his left shoulder. He believed in her completely, but there was still that hint of worry that he had. Especially when it came to Lind. Indeed, she could take care of herself, but there can absolutely be situations where she was in over her head. With his deep, soothing voice, he replied. "I understand, but please be careful," he stated, before letting out a sigh.
Even though she was the Tiny Terror, according to both members and students, Lind was his ally and his friend. Perhaps even having deeper feelings for the goddess, even though those emotions could never be returned. Not in the typical human love or compassion type of emotions. "Keep us in the loop. But for now, until we possess more information, we need to keep this under wraps. New Masada's not prepared for such a situation just yet, but I do feel that the Alliance will be ready to go given the escalation of the problem," he added, returning to his business like procedure. Taking his hand off of her shoulder, he gave her a quiet nod. David was entrusting Lind with complete confidence, even if he did have a small amount of concern.
Humans were disappearing with no reason, even to the goddesses. Even though the Alliance and New Masada had bigger fish to fry with the inevitable arrival of the Imperium, this situation should be addressed more so sooner than later. Already, plans were formulating in his head. Once Lind supplies more information, he and the goddess would investigate before bringing in and briefing the other members. And if this was indeed a foreshadowing of the Imperium, David may need Tartalian assistance. It just depended on how terrible things would get.

[/style][style=width: 325px; font-family: georgia; font-size: 15px; color : #hexcode; margin-top: -50px;]How can I repay you brother mine? How can I expect you to forgive? ooc: Hope you don't mind me joining in. This seems like a good opportunity to bring Edward in. Especially right after you guys started to consider keeping a closer eye on some people.... XD
bic:
How much worse could things get? Here he was... Having only just discovered that his younger brother's body still existed. Yet he didn't have a chance to even begin trying to retrieve it... It was the only real lead he and Alphonse had received; ever since they began the wild goose chase which consisted of them trying to be normal again. But he did have military obligations; as the Colonel had said. Had he not become a "Military Dog", he would likely have still been trapped at home along with his brother; despairing over their biggest mistake and the consequences. But the military life had been offered to him; had motivated the two brothers to "stand up and walk", to move forward... He owed them that much at least... Besides... There had been so many benefits of joining the elite group of State Alchemists, and he had never been called out on active duty before. He should have figured out that it was only a matter of time... No way would he admit it to anyone, but he was a bit nervous about this. All the wars he'd studied or heard about were full of death and destruction; suffering spread like a plague. And now, he was being thrown headlong into the cruel mess of War. Whatever these alien things were which would be attacking Earth, there was no guarantee he'd come out of battle alive... He knew very little about everything that was going on, but someone whould probably explain things to him soon. But if he didn't return from this future war... There would be no hope for Alphonse. He had performed the Alchemy which bound his younger brother to the armor, and he alone stood a chance of restoring Al's body. So that would be his motivation... Whatever happened in the hell he was about to enter, he had someone he needed to return to... Loosing his life would not be an option.
The blond-haired youth had only just arrived on the Island of New Masada, he'd gotten off his plane from France less than an hour ago. The so-called Head Quarters of the alliance between "friendly" aliens and humans which would face the future invasion was what stood before him now. To be honest, it didn't look like much... Back in France, the Military HQ was much more impressive; with its towering walls of marble and banners which displayed their "coat of arms". This place, didn't catch his attention much; or perhaps it was simply because he'd never been across the world before. His entire life had been spent traveling in Europe alone. But no matter what the large series of different buildings looked like, this was definitely the HQ indicated on the map he was holding in his gloved right hand. He forced himself to ignore the anger seething in his gut at this uncalled for duty. Whoever was in charge here would likely already be a bit disapproving about a mere kid getting involved; whether he knew the Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric, or not. So acting like a child who was being forced into something he didn't want to do would be a pretty bad first impression. He'd just have to suck it up and be the Military Dog he was.
A light, but constant wind was buffeting his small frame; the crimson coat which has his trademark attire billowed out around him as it was caught on the winds. The blond hair was in its usual brain down his upper back, also shifting under the moving air. In his left hand, he held a mid-sized red-brown suitcase; he was always one to travel light. Besides, he'd been assured that his transfer to this HQ would include most everything that he needed. The golden gaze traveled up and down the administration building, trying to get used to how different it looked from what he was used to. But just standing here and staring wouldn't get him anywhere. It was time to get going. He had been instructed to go to the office of one of the leaders, some guy by the name of David Alastair Rosenzweig; also known as The Horned Frog. It was a name he'd never have given himself, it just sounded so... Well... Unusual, and weird. But once again, he was the foreigner here. His own military name of Fullmetal Alchemist might sound strange to them while "Horned Frog" was normal. Especially if they knew nothing about his... Uh... Special Circumstances... Almost self consciously, he made sure that his clothing concealed both the metal right arm and left leg. For all he knew, these people may not be accustomed to seeing such advanced prosthetics.
The youth entered through the front double doors, finding himself in a sort of lobby. He didn't waste time looking around curiously, now was the time to act somewhat professional. He proceeded straight to the main desk; behind which there was a woman. She looked up as he reached her, raising her eyebrows. "Can I help you, Child?" She asked; obviously a bit confused as to why he'd be here. He didn't appreciate being called a child, but at least it hadn't been something else. He folded up the map and placed it in his right pocket; then drew out a small silver pocket watch from the same pocket; attached to the brown utility belt he wore. He held up the thing, the State Alchemist symbol glittered coldly in the bright lighting as the watch rotated on it's chain. "I'm Edward Elric, from France's Military. I was sent here to aid in defense, and told to speak to The Horned Frog on arrival." She was apparently caught off guard by that; her eyes never left the watch until he placed it back in his pocket. She'd been forewarned of his arrival, but she hadn't expected a kid of age 16... He left his suitcase behind the desk at her offer to hold it for him, then she gave him instructions to the proper office. Soon he was making his may through a maze of hallways and stairs.
When he'd finally reached the said office, he raised his right arm to knock with the back of his metal knuckles. But before he did so, there were voices from inside. He couldn't make out what they were saying, but there were three of them. A gruff, male voice, and two woman. One woman sounded petrified or something, the other had a tone of one with authority and power. Then the woman he assumed was the uncertain one left the office, he stood aside to let her pass. She seemed... Pretty upset about something... Perhaps now wasn't the best time to intrude on conversation... He hesitated a moment longer; then knocked lightly on the door. The glove muffled the sound of metal on wood; but it the knock would at least be heard. He would wait until they admitted him; just walking in would be downright rude. Besides... He wasn't sure if he wanted to walk in anyway... This seemed like a really bad moment to get involved with anything...
ooc: Wow, I didn't mean for it to be this long... Ah well; I don't expect the rest of my posts to be quite this lengthy.

Lind looked up at David “I’ll tell you what I know when I know it.” She’ll probably be kept in the loop she was the only Valkyrie here on earth that could get to these places faster then the others could. Keep it under wraps and pretend that nothing was going on that was simple for her to pull off. Like slipping on a mask what little emotion Lind had been showing disappeared as if they had never been there in the first place. The look on her face returning to an impassive one that she wore everyday when she taught or interacted with other people 99% of the time. Which made people think she didn’t feel anything but she did she just hid it very well unless needed to show it which was very rare.
Lind was going to say something else but didn’t now that she realized someone else was here. With her time on earth she picked up the habit of being able to tell when someone was near by with out seeing them. Turning around she walked towards the door and opened it coming face to face with Edward Elric a new student perhaps? He was shorter then she was but by a few inch’s at that. And many years younger much more then you would think. She stared at Edward for a while before turning to look over her shoulder at David “I’ll get back to teaching my classes now and I’ll try not to send so many to the nurse this time.” he didn't need to know what they had been talking about so she covered it up with something they had already talked about. She moved passed Edward as she headed for the training field again.

Watching Lind's emotions return to her version of normal, was unsettling for the Foreigner. Despite her turning away and walking out of his office as if the conversation was nothing, he could feel that something was not right. For those small fleeting moments, the Horned Frog felt tenderness and worry within the fabric of Lind's being. Those emotions were very rare for David to see, but that very subtle display made him respect the Valkyrie that much more. And somewhere within the Horned Frog, he did feel something more for the cyan colored goddess.
As she left, he sighed to himself. Something huge was going down, and it concerned the Horned Frog as much as the Valkyrie herself. Why were these people disappearing? What kind of force is behind this? Is the Justice League already investigating what Lind is reporting? What about the Soul Society and their potential reports on these happenings? David stared hard into space, crossing his arms over his chest. Closing his eyes momentarily, a stream of overwhelming thoughts flooded his mind. Hopefully, either one of the two organizations can get to the bottom of this in time.
The knock on the door snapped him back to reality. Clearing his throat and speaking up, the Foreigner's voice came out. "Come in," a strong voice came from the Horned Frog. Other than having Luce and Lind dropping by, he was not expecting any top brass or anyone else to really show up. Going around his desk in getting back to his chair, he waited patiently for a response from whoever knocked at the door. His violet eyes turned into a gaze, staring straight forward to the would be visitor.
What little did the Horned Frog know is that this visitor was from the French military. While Japan, the United States, and Israel have been in the forefront of communications with the Tartalians and using their space technology to monitor the heavens for any disturbances, the European Union was no slouch in providing assistance when needed. England and France were more so in the mix than any other European nation. But when it came to those who will be flung in first when the Imperium comes into the solar system...that would be the Great Alliance.
Because for all he knew, The Alliance was the first and last line of defense against this impending threat. Should they fail, there would be nobody who could survive an onslaught that had nearly driven the Tartalians and many other races to the brink of extinction. That is why they needed to delay, demoralize, and eventually defeat an Imperium fleet with every resource that they have.

[/style][style=width: 325px; font-family: georgia; font-size: 15px; color : #hexcode; margin-top: -50px;]How can I repay you brother mine? How can I expect you to forgive? He heard the voices halt the moment he knocked. It was rather unnerving; he had no idea what sort of people he was walking in on. He'd only heard of the Horned Frog; and all of those stories had described him as a good man; one who genuinely felt worried about the world. From the little information the Military had given him though; he still didn't know what to expect. And that harsh-sounding woman... It was more or less curiosity he felt about that female voice; there had been no mention of a secretary or assistant of any kind to The Foreigner. Maybe she was just part of the Great Alliance's most elite forces or something; that would certainly explain the authority he'd heard in her voice. She'd spoken to the Horned Toad as an equal, or so he assumed by her voice's tone. Too bad he couldn't hear what they were saying... Then he heard rather rapid footsteps, and shifted out of the way of the soon-to-be-opened door. But when the woman appeared, he immediately sensed an unexplained power about her. The golden eyes flew upward as he tilted his head back slightly to fix on her face. He was always the one to look up to see people... It drove him insane...
She spent a few moments staring down on him, and he forced himself to bite back a challenging phrase that instantly rose to his lips... "Go on... I dare you to say 'short'..." It was a good thing he'd kept his mouth shut too; or else the woman would most likely have immediately been more interested in him; and in a negative way.. Probably return the challenge without a second thought. The result of a conflict like that... He wasn't sure... He knew absolutely nothing of her, and she knew nothing of him. It was best that it stayed that way; at least until he was certain they were on the same side, and that he could trust her. She finally looked away from him, and called an apparent farewell to the man who sat within the office. He ducked his head slightly and moved to the side to let her pass; hiding a smirk of amusement. Did she really think that he believed your parting sentence was what they had been talking about? He wasn't that unobservant or ignorant. If they had really been discussing classes and injuries, then their voices wouldn't have sounded so worried or uncertain. But he wasn't going to pry into the matter; it was certainly not the place of a new arrival like himself to get involved in classified events or discussions.
As soon as she had vanished around a corner, the blond youth proceeded to enter the office as the voice called him in. The moment he'd walked into the Horned Frog's view; his movement froze while his body stiffened into a straight-backed military attention stance, and the gloved right hand snapped up to his forehead in salute. It wasn't habitual, he'd only occasionally performed the formal greeting back at the HQ of France's military. However, he would appear as a mere kid to the Alliance leader if he didn't act professional. He pictured Lt. Ross in his mind's eye, her focused expression and unmoving attention whenever she greeting him or another of higher rank. He tried to mimic that expressionless look of cencentration on his own face. Without moving or dropping his salute, his voice spoke clearly. "Sir, This is Edward Elric; the Fullmetal Alchemist; reporting for duty from France's military on transfer orders. I was sent here to aid in the defense against the coming danger of the potential off-world invasion." Ugh, how much more idiotic could the military make him look? He even sounded stupid to himself; or perhaps it was just because he'd never had to "report for duty" before. It would certainly take some getting used to; if he was sent of on active duty in the future. He would hold his motionless attention and salute until told otherwise, as was military custom when greeting one of higher rank.

"At ease, soldier," quipped the Horned Frog as he sat solemnly at his desk. His gaze stayed at the young man, who was representing the French. However, he was impressed by the entrance, but something seemed off about this Edward Elric. As if his military stance was not something that he was comfortable with. All understandable to the Horned Frog, who never had to go through drilling and training. He already had that embedded into him, to the point of where he could speak face to face with higher ups with all of the saluting and ass-kissing. He was considered an independent entity, free from restrictions whatsoever. "And we aren't the army, you don't need to salute me or anyone else here on the island," David added, giving Edward a nod of reassurance. They were all equals here.
Now, David was curious as to why the French would send a younger gentleman to help aid planetary defense. The name was a curiosity in itself; as Fullmetal Alchemist had a rhyme and reason. Much like "The Horned Frog" name was given to him by his sensei, the Sable Cicada. He had remembered being back the temple high in the Himalayas when he had alone time. All of the training and focusing...all to rid himself of the demons from within him. She would sit with him while he was meditating, and would aid in purging those storm clouds from David's mind. To push him through, she had told him of when she had ventured the American southwest many, many years ago.
Somehow, someway...she had befriended the natives, who had educated the former temptress of the wildlife in the area. One animal that she had remembered the most is now known as the Texas Horned Lizard. She was told that it was a strong, resilient creature with a noble heart. An animal who was docile, yet would defend itself from danger by spitting blood from its eyes and using its protective horned skin from the many predators that hunted them. In a strange way, she had likened David to the Horned Lizard. To her, they shared the same attributes. Kind and docile despite defending his loved ones and friends from any danger - whatever it may be.
But that was a very long time ago. And for his training, it felt like forever since he had left to go out into the world. The Foreigner spoke out once more, in a more questioning manner. "So why are you named Fullmetal Alchemist? I have some knowledge of alchemy and its principles, but I don't really understand the Fullmetal aspect of your name," David requested, his tone of voice softening. If that question was a bit offensive to Edward, then David would instantly back off and apologize. It would be the right thing to do.
As for wondering why the French would send one of their own, it would make sense. The European Union, and especially Britain and France, have wanted to come into the fold. They were traditional powers, feeling left out in the cold due to the presence of the United States, Japan, and most importantly, Israel in these alien affairs. This made David suspicious of what they would do to make their policies known, so it was convenient for Edward Elric to be here, right now. The Horned Frog would sit him down, see what France really wanted when it came to the Great Alliance and the Tartalians. Then, he could analyze and confer with the Princess herself. It was a process, but it was worth obtaining the knowledge.
