Appearance:
Akito has light brown hair that he keeps cut about half a centimeter long and combed flat. He has green eyes. He is lean, but tough. He normally wears a long grey coat with a flamel symbol on the underside of either sleeve and his alchemy circle stitched inside on the back as a sort of cheat sheat or emergency circle. Under the coat, he will have either a short or long sleeved white shirt, depending on the weather. He typically wears blue jeans with a beaten up bronze watch that he hopes to replace with a State Alchemist's watch soon in the right pocket. His watch has actually been gutted and he now uses it to store notes.
Akito normally wears light black fingerless gloves. These also have his transmutation circle stitched into the palms. He owns a pair of white winter gloves with the same modification. He has a hypnotist's voice, easy to listen to. He typically walks with a slight limp in his left leg: this is an act and he can ditch it if he needs to.
Personality:
Akito is no pushover, that much is certain. He prefers to do things his own way, a trait which seems to run in his family, and has gotten him into a great deal of trouble in the past. He's normally quite friendly, actually, he's usually the first person to greet a stranger. He does not, however, trust whoever he strikes up a conversation with, but that doesn't mean he lies to them. He doesn't lie unless he needs to. He does not lose his cool easily, but he does have a limit on the number of strange things he can see in a short period of time. Most of the times he has lost composure are because of someone doing things with alchemy that either terrify or amaze him.
Akito prefers that people not ask too many questions about his past; not that he's suppressing it, but he doesn't think it needs to be general knowledge. If asked too many questions, he won't clam up, but he will attempt to change the subject. Whenever he sees someone being treated unfairly or harassed, he will usually intervene, a lot of times using alchemy to do something mildly impressive or intimidating to make the person dealing out unfairness shut up without force, though he won't hesitate to strike back if attacked.
Akito doesn't like water. Not one bit. This is not exactly a deep, dark secret. He's very open about it, actually. The only form of water he likes is drinking water. For this reason, if he gets into a confrontation with a water manipulating alchemist, he is unlikely to pull punches. He doesn't even like pet fish. In terms befitting an alchemist, he describes this as "fear of amounts of water in excess of twenty ounces." His reasoning for this: water is not meant to be played in, fish are not pets, and the ocean is where sharks live.
Abilities & Weaknesses:
Powers/Abilities
- Alchemy: Akito is a practiced alchemist. Alchemy is the science of understanding, deconstructing, and rebuilding matter. It is powered by the movement of the earth's tectonic plates, and thus, cannot be performed whilst in the air. Alchemy is used by drawing or otherwise placing a transmutation circle on the ground, and using the circle to power the reaction that the alchemist desires.
- Parkour: Akito can run like all hell is chasing him, and he's good at seeing and taking the best route to get to his destination. It's also a good hobby, and useful for running at someone as well. He's decent at most of the movements associated with parkour, such as vaults, wall climbs and jumps, and ledge catches.
- Basic Martial Arts are at Akito's command. No awe-inspiring black-belt awesomeness, but he can block, he can punch, and he can dodge.
Weaknesses/Physical Flaws/Psychological Flaws:
- Airplanes. For alchemy to work, there has to be a link to the earth, no matter how tenative. Akito's alchemy does not work on airplanes. It works on boats, but not planes. It works in buildings. It just doesn't work in the open air.
- Akito is, frankly, built like a stick. He's good at his form with martial arts, but his punches don't have a ton of power behind them. That's why he uses alchemy to fight.
- Alchemy only works if Akito knows the basic structure of whatever he's trying to transmute, so, any unique material such as a Zanpakuto or alien metals would not be transmutable until Akito found a way to examine its cellular structure and commit it to memory.
- The end result of alchemy must be somewhat similar to how the material began. Matter cannot be created, nor can it be destroyed. Also, minerals must remain minerals, vegetables must remain vegetables, et cetera. While it would technically be possible to transmute two animals, the prospect sickens Akito. Chimera creation is a branch of alchemy he will never explore.
History:
Akito was born in Dublith, which is a moderately sized town south of Paris, to a family of alchemists. He was an only child. He grew up watching his parents perform alchemy to fix things around the house, and they also performed their services for their neighbors. He picked up a few things about what they did. Not much, but he realized that they never created anything from nothing. Everything had a price. It was very interesting, to say the least. They never discouraged him from watching, but they never taught him anything.
As time went by, his parents were becoming even more skilled than they were before with every passing month. This was like a miracle to little Akito. Like any normal kid, his parents were the most impressive people he knew, and to see them improving was amazing for the eight year old. Eventually, they became proud of their talent, his father more so than his mother. Eventually, his father travelled to Paris to take the state alchemist exam. Ten year old Akito and his mother were both excited, they didn't think that he could possibly fail. But fail he did. He returned to his family's house in Dublith, walking in on confetti and cake. Akito couldn't understand what was wrong until his father placed the results of the examination on the table.
Life still went on, but Akito's father didn't perform alchemy again. His dream had been crushed, he said, it held too many memories. Akito's mother took over the impromptu family business of performing odd alchemy jobs around town. His father got a job in a store, as a manager or something. It didn't interest Akito much, so he didn't really pay attention. He became his mother's shadow, following here everywhere and watching her do amazing things. He kept badgering her to teach him, but she kept saying that he was too young. On his thirteenth birthday, his mother gave him a box with some chalk inside and a note that read "We start your lessons tomorrow."
Over the next three years, Akito learned of the theories and techniques behind his alchemy, while his father sank more into depression. He found he had a knack for working with stone, and he and his mother worked together to create his circle. It was simple, with plenty of room to improve and accommodate whatever Akito learned next. Akito worked on his talent with stone for another three years, really improving, then he set out from home. His ultimate destination was to take the state alchemist's test, but he was in no rush. He was going to learn as much as he could along the way, pass that test with flying colors, and make his family proud. Maybe he could make some friends along the way.
Akito traveled for some time, learning more and more about alchemy and stitching a transmutation circle into his gloves. He was intrigued to learn that the famous Edward Elric had taken up a position with the Great Alliance. After setting some other affairs in order, he enrolled in the University of New Masada, in hopes of learning from the youngest state alchemist ever.
