Appearance:
When Billy’s, well, Billy, he’s a small ten-year-old boy with messy black hair, bright blue eyes, and a perpetual smile on his face. That smile’s just always there. He’s a small, skinny little thing, typically wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, and he’s just absolutely adorable, something which pretty much everyone agrees. He’s a major cutie.
However, after he says ‘Shazam’ and transforms into Captain Marvel, he looks quite different. He’s a broad, strong man, standing at over six feet tall and very muscular, with thick arms and legs. Captain Marvel always wears his hero-ing costume when he’s in this form, a red suit with a golden lightning bolt, boots, sash and a white cape with gold trimming. He can change out of it, but usually doesn’t, preferring to keep the outfit that is always on him.
Personality:
…It’s very hard to describe one such as Billy Batson. There’s a sort of innocence that permeates him, despite the hardships that he’s gone through, and he’s an incredibly kind person, always accepting others and wanting to befriend them. He’s also lonely, too, lacking friends his own age as he’s unable to relate to them, instead tagging along with adults and older kids. The boy is just a kind soul, the purest soul that’s ever existed, actually, and is just one of those people who loves to love, spreading the joy.
At the same time, though, he’s a child, meaning he can be immature and not quite understand the magnitude of things, or simplify them down beyond what they’re supposed to be. He’s very excitable, and a bit of a chatterbox, loving to just gush about stuff and how ‘awesome’ it is, unaware of the fact that he can be annoying at times, unless told. However, he can be serious and be quiet, knowing when to stop and just let things go. Rarely, very rarely, is he angry, opting for sad at those times, and the few times his anger is roused, well… It’s a sight to see.
For the most part, though, Billy is a happy-go-lucky child, a boy who always has a grin on his face and love in his heart, possessing the purest soul in the world.
Abilities & Weaknesses:
The Wisdom of Solomon, the Strength of Hercules, the Stamina of Atlas, the Power of Zeus, the Courage of Achilles, and the Speed of Mercury. These together become SHAZAM, the word Billy Batson has to say in order to transform into Captain Marvel.
Powers/Abilities
- Super Strength – “Isn’t it cool? I think I’m almost as strong as Superman!”
- Flight – “Flying’s the best, ya know? And I can go super fast when I fly! I think as fast as the Flash, but he won’t race against me. Just against Superman. So I’m hoping Kid Flash’ll race me!”
- Super Stamina – “Oh man, I can just keep going when I’m Cap! Not forever, cause I do get tired and stuff, but way more than I can when I’m normal!”
- Invulnerability – “That’s that word where you don’t get hurt as much, right? I got that! Not as good as Superman’s, cause I get more hurt than he does when we get into fights, but way more than everyone else!”
Weaknesses/Physical Flaws/Psychological Flaws:
- Has to say Shazam – “If I don’t say my word, I don’t change! So it’s really not fun when I can’t say it, cause I’m gagged or something, and then I’m stuck as Billy…”
- Secret Identity – “Heh… Yeah, most of the bad guys I fight, just me, know who I am. And the Justice League does. And the Team. And most of my friends… Uncle Dudley says I gotta keep it a secret more.”
- Still a Kid – “I dunno why that’s a bad thing! I mean, Robin’s only three years older and he’s awesome! Batman says it’s cause it means I haven’t been doing it for a long time, which I guess I get.”
- Too Trusting – “People like to say don’t talk to strangers, but how are you ever gonna make friends, then? Sure, not all of them are good, but…”
- Attention Span – “Aww, come on, I only snuck a comic book into a meeting once-!”
- Doesn’t like to Hurt People – “I know my punches hurt, y’know? So if I can get the bad guys in jail and not beat them up a billion times, isn’t that better?”
- Will Cave Eventually – “I have gotten beat before, y’know. It’s not fun, but I’m not like Superman and I can’t last forever… Don’t worry, I totally got them, though! I may get beat up enough so I can’t do stuff, but doesn’t mean I’ll give up!”
- Others before Himself – “Well, yeah, if I had to give up myself in order to get someone else out, I would. Don’t care if I don’t like them or know them or something. Wouldn’t you?”
History:
Billy was born to a pair of archeologists, a doting pair of parents, along with his twin sister, Mary. When he was very young, however, only about six years old, his parents had to go on a bit of a lengthy trip to excavate a dig. Billy was completely fine staying with the babysitter they had hired, but Mary begged, pleaded, and cajoled them, desperately wanting to go… And they gave in, so all three set off. Little did they know that their guide was secretly against them, and he slaughtered them both, dropping Mary, who hadn’t seen anything, off with a family, and leaving Billy with no one.
Well, not exactly no one. He went to his next relative, his Uncle, who promptly inherited all the money that was supposed to go to Billy, took it, and then booted the child out on the streets. A six-year-old child, absolutely alone out there. Somehow, he managed to survive, living on his own and actually managing to do it, for a whole year, roaming the streets of Fawcett City.
And then, one day, he found his eye caught by a man. He looked just like his father, and Billy found himself chasing him, hoping desperately that it was. Following him onto a subway, the boy found that he had disappeared, and he had been left at an odd stop… One where a Wizard and statues of the seven sins existed. It was there that he received his powers, learned to say the word ‘Shazam!’ so that he could transform into Captain Marvel, a grown man with awesome superpowers.
Needless to say, he was absolutely delighted.
Using his powers for good, Captain Marvel found himself joining the Justice League at age eight, with all but Batman unaware of his true age, and a few months later, he was adopted by a man named Dudley H. Dudley, whom he dubbed ‘Uncle Dudley’ and cared for very much. For two years, that was his life, with the addition of the Team once it was created, until…
The Tartalians arrived. Though the League was certainly not going to let a ten-year-old boy join the Alliance overseas (his secret being out to the League and the Team, and just them), with his speed, he was certainly an ideal choice for going back and forth. Awesome, right?
RP Sample:
She had been gone for two days. That was it. Just two days. A mission that had taken a bit, that was actually supposed to be three days but she had sped it along, wanted to get out of Asia and back home…
But everything had fallen apart
She wasn’t the only one with her gender swapped, almost everyone was… including Zatanna and Klarion. And they liked each other. She had long known, despite the fact that she kept trying, didn’t want to give up, never wanted to give up, that she could never be with her…hiscrush, never be with the wonderful girl that he really liked, but now that girl that he liked, that she liked… was now a boy and liked her friend. One of her good friends. Klarion.
And everyone had chosen different names, and while normally she would be all over that, let’s have fun, let’s do this, now it wasn’t Billy, Zatanna, and Klarion, but Mary, Zai, and Charity, and she didn’t know what to do. Because Zai was gone.
She had gotten the briefing, gave a report on her mission, and then she was gone, out the window and into the air before she could talk to a single member of the team. But… where could she go? What should she do?
In truth, Mary didn’t know, didn’t have any idea, so floating in the air, in the place she felt so fond of, not able to part too far from the cave… She wrapped her cape around herself and sobbed.
Creator/Player Comments:
My name’s Poet, and I’ve been roleplaying for five-ish years~. Billy’s one of my favorite superheroes ever, and I’m excited to be playing him here!
“It’s not that I can’t be mean. I could cuss a bunch and kill all the bad guys and stuff. But… look, I can’t even drive yet. I don’t have a bank account. I can’t vote or drink and I haven’t been to college. I don’t understand everything. So until I do, I’m gonna use the power I have to do the right thing. Call me a wussy if you want… I’m just a boy trying to be a good man.”
